It hit me somewhere over the Atlantic that I was not going to be getting off the plane on the east coast. That I was going to a foreign country where I can’t speak the language (which makes it somewhat difficult to navigate this pc at the moment) and where most of the people I’ll interact with speak Chinese. Very surreal.
I was surprised at my stop in Sweden that there was snow. I know, I shouldn’t be surprised at that, but I just wasn’t really prepared for it. That and I really really really hoped my luggage would show up because my coat, mittens, hat, boots, and scarf were all checked through.
The thought of driving made me a little nervous, but the airport was extremely quiet, there are lots of great signs, and it really does look just like Maine. Of course, I giggled when the first real thing I passed was an Ikea. =)
I made it safely to the Sports Institute of Finland in Vierumäki. I’ve got a room that is fairly simple and I’ve already rearranged the funiture and unpacked everything. Still waiting for the team to arrive. Not sure where I’m supposed to find them.
Signing off from Vierumäki.
