Banana bread, dead gophers, and puppies

Before Perl and I left for our “morning constitutional,” I put a loaf of banana bread in the oven to bake.

Upon exiting the building, we were greeted by a dead gopher. Seems that maybe Mitsy wasn’t the one who killed the gopher a couple months ago and left it in front of my door. I’m not thrilled with this new trophy, considering my cats are safely inside. But I picked it up with a poo bag.

I do not like touching dead things in the morning.

I do not like touching dead things any time of the day.

I do not like touching dead things. Period.

While on our walk, we ran into the new puppy in the complex. He is so cute and full of energy and Perlie gets excited to see him, runs up to him, says hello, and then runs off. Poor puppy is left wanting more, still full of energy, while old maid Perlie has a short attention span for the young and spry.

Much like some people I know.

Question is, am I the puppy or am I Perlie?

Opening the door to my condo unleashed the smell of fresh baking banana bread into the wild. I love the smell of banana bread.

I should bake more.

I was expecting the story to end with, “Upon opening the door, out wafted the aroma of the banana bread. I paused and closed my eyes as my nose then led the way to the kitchen. I was shaken from my daze when the poo bag wiggled. The gopher was revived by the banana bread! Perl and Pablo joined us in a celebration by putting on bibs, sitting on one side of a table with forks in our right hands and knifes in our right, breaking banana bread with our new-found friend Mr. Wiggles.”

  2. Look up “JOY” in the dictionary. Next to it, you’ll find a picture of banana bread. So good. Joyous, really.
