Terminal A

I love airports. The sense of anticipation hangs thick in the air. Sadness as people leave their loved ones. Joy as they are reconnected. Excitement to be on their journey.

Getting through security was slightly different. To start, I was behind two families. I was patient. I wasn’t in a hurry. I’m a pro at this.

The woman checking boarding passes and IDs asked me what my necklace means. “Older Sister in Korean,” I said. “My sister likes to remind me.” Security Woman told me about het two kids and how the younger one gloats that he is taller, but the other reminds him that she is older.

SJC has the new full body scanner. It takes longer than the other. Other Security Woman made me empty my pockets including my wallet and cash. I felt that was excessive but complied.

Security Guy told me to stand in the two boxes that are awkwardly apart. Then he told me to try again. “Put your arms out, now over your head and hold.”

“I can do that. Strike a pose!” I added a little Madonna hip check. He reminded me to stand still. On the way out he said, “I can see you’ve had five drinks.”

“Only two,” I corrected. I wasn’t kidding. I’d just been out to dinner with a friend and had two beers at Faultline Brewery. Interesting place. Lots of guys in button up shirts. I wonder what they do. The waitress was overloaded. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. The hefeweisen was tolerable, delicious once I squeezed the lemon.

Now I’m waiting for my flight on Jet Blue. I forget that local brews are stronger than the bottled stuff.

I promise not to hit a steward with an overhead compartment.

  2. Funny you say that. On the flight, I questioned why I had used the word steward instead of flight attendant. I’m pretty sure I can blame something I read recently. I usually say flight attendant.

  3. Most Hefe’s are brewed on the”bitter” end of the taste spectrum. That way when you add the sugar and citrus of a squeezed lemon or orange, it balances out the beer. (A little microbrew knowledge goes a long way!)
