My Fitness Pal

I’ve been goofing off long enough. If I don’t lose this extra weight now, it is just going to get harder to do later.

I’ve put this ticker in the side bar so you can watch my progress. I need some sort of accountability. So there it is. I want to lose 24.4 pounds. I know it doesn’t necessarily look like I have that much to lose, but I’ve spent the last few years learning to hide it. Time to unhide it. Time to just get rid of it.

The plan is to lose a pound a week. Exercise more and eat smaller portions. I don’t eat a lot of sweets, rarely drink soda, but I do love me some carbs. So if I want to eat carbs, I have to earn them by doing exercise.

At one pound a week, starting now, I should have lost 25 pounds by Father’s Day on June 19th. I’ve just added markers in my calendar for each five-pound mark.

If I can train for and run a half marathon, then I can do this!

BTW, I’m running Bay to Breakers this year with Meine Schwester. If any of you want to run it with us, make sure to sign up early, since it is the 100th running!

  1. I use an iPhone app called Tap and Track. Check it out. My goal? 15# And yes, lose it now cause the older you get, the harder it gets. Take my word. Good, the race is on.

  2. I got a withings scale and publicly tweet my weight. It has been stagnant recently, but that is better than growing! I also find that simple awareness of calorie consumption & burn rate did wonders. To that end, the Lose It! app for the iPhone has proven to be a wonderful tool.

I’ll see if I can’t match your weight loss pound for pound.

  3. Ooh, running Bay to Breakers sounds fun. Do I remember that you run about a 12 minute mile like me? Maybe I’ll have to join you, get into shape for the spring golf league:)

Best of luck! I’ve decided to give up on the hard numbers as a goal and instead find some new use for my body that requires fitness. Right now that looks like 5Ks, 10Ks, and a future of kayaking.

  5. K, that’s awesome that you’re making yourself accountable for your health goals. Me? I love beer (and single malt whiskey as of lately) but I too need to dial in my calories. Oof. Good work my friend, good work.
