Just a matter of time

Saturday afternoon I pulled something in my back, or pinched a nerve or something. It might have had something to do with running four miles and riding my bike for forty miles last week. By Sunday night I gave up and took a muscle relaxer.

This morning I found out that the Shuttle launch has been delayed for ten days. I bought my plane tickets last week.

At noon, I drove to the airport to pick up Cub Scout. I put the top down on the convertible, it was a beautiful day. Until my thermostat light started blinking red. I drove in the slow lane to the airport, picked up Cub Scout and had him call other coworkers to pick us up at the dealer. Then I drove to the dealer.

Cub Scout opened the manual and we learned that I was supposed to pull over and turn off the car. But nothing was smoking or burning yet, so I kept driving. It was nerve wracking. The tenseness in my arms and shoulders were not helping my back.

We made it to the dealer and left my car.

Later in the afternoon the service technician called to tell me that my cooling system was shot to a tune of $1300 and won’t be ready until tomorrow.

Lucky for me, I’d left my bike at work on Friday night after I got a ride home. I’d meant to run to work this weekend and ride my bike home, but since my back hurt I decided not to do that.

So, I rode my bike home in heels and a sweater. It didn’t hurt me too bad.

Then I remembered I have a whirlpool tub, so I cranked it up and soaked for half an hour.

To finish my day, I took a muscle relaxer, then put dinner in the oven. Now I’m trying to beat the clock by getting this post done and dinner out of the oven before I’m completely useless.

I can feel my mind slipping.

Wish me luck!

I was thinking as I walked to the car: K is so lucky she gets to ride her bike home in this perfect weather. I didn’t realize you were wearing heels!

I hope the relaxer, dinner, and some rest help. Take care K!

Mmmmm muscle relaxers. I lost a day once on those, for my back as well. I blame thy father who art in Westbrook.

  4. I know this is a month old post, but I hope your back is feeling better! (i’m just now getting caught up on your blog. Damn records and touring mess up my blog reading schedule. Oof.)
